St. Joseph the Worker: Feast Day May 1
“ _______________ ” – St. Joseph
Reflection:
Besides Jesus and Mary, St. Joseph was one of the most important people in scripture. As the foster father to Jesus, St. Joseph was tasked with caring for the Savior of the world and providing for Him. Talk about pressure!
Yet, in scripture he wasn’t quoted at all. He served humbly. St. Joseph didn’t desire to be known on his own accord. Rather, he put the emphasis on serving God and his family.
In today’s society, it is easy to get caught up in making our opinions known to others. It’s easy to post our thoughts or feelings. We want to be seen, heard, and validated. How many times do we stop and pray instead of post? How many times do we act like St. Joseph and let God know our thoughts, feelings, and wants? Do we desire to be known by God intimately?
This week, let's stop and cultivate our prayer lives. Instead of making our opinions known, may we let God know what is on our hearts. May we long to love God above all. May we put Jesus first in our thoughts like St. Joseph. May we refrain from the desire for others to see us and instead let them see God in us.
Prayer:
O God, I come to you in silence today. Open my heart and mind to receive You. May I quiet myself from the busyness of life. Let me hear your voice.
Help me to rid myself of the idea that everything is about me and my wants. May my life be of service to You. Amen.
