“There is no problem, I tell you, no matter how difficult it is, that we cannot resolve by the prayer of the Holy Rosary.” -Sister Lucia dos Santos of Fatima
Reflection:
The Rosary is a beautiful scripture-based prayer that focuses on the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. By meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary, we are journeying deeper into our own prayer lives. The Rosary is a rote prayer which allows us to contemplate the mysteries in imaginative ways while reciting the Our Father and Hail Mary.
Sometimes, we can go on autopilot while praying the Rosary as we try to “get through it”. While no Rosary will ever be perfect, we must stop and refocus if we find ourselves to be praying without our mind or hearts. It’s not meant to be prayed so we accomplish our daily task of praying. It is a beautiful prayer that takes much mental and spiritual focus.
Many saints were drawn to the Rosary because they understood the power of the prayer. There are many graces that have been given because of ardent prayers of the Rosary. For those devoted
to the prayer, there are fifteen promises of the Rosary that were given by the Blessed Mother herself (see below). Sister Lucia dos Santos of Fatima also explains that the Rosary has the
power to solve any problem. From overcoming vices, stopping wars, ending spiritual battles, to bringing peace to families, the Rosary can be prayed for every intention imaginable. Why
wouldn’t we take advantage of praying such a powerful prayer?
Let us take some time this week to bring our intentions to the foot of the cross. Let us make an effort to pray a Rosary (or a few), and pray for peace in our world, for the peace of our souls, and
the peace between our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Our Lady of the Rosary, pray for us.
Prayer:
Dear God, I thank You for the gift of prayer, the gift of communicating with You. I most especially thank You for the gift of Our Lady who prays for us and with us in Heaven at Your throne. I pray that I may be drawn deeper in prayer as I contemplate the mysteries of the Rosary.
May I reflect on Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Help my mind not to wander. If it does, please gently call me back to prayer. I earnestly desire to love You more each day. I love You.
Amen.
15 Promises of the Rosary as revealed to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche
1.Those who faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary shall receive signal graces.
2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary.
3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell. It will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies.
4. The recitation of the Rosary will cause virtue and good works to flourish. It will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God. It will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire of eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.
5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary shall not perish.
6. Those who recite my Rosary devoutly, applying themselves to the consideration of its sacred mysteries, shall never be conquered by misfortune. In His justice, God will not chastise them; nor shall they perish by an unprovided death, i.e., be unprepared for heaven. Sinners shall convert. The just shall persevere in grace and become worthy of eternal life.
7. Those who have a true devotion to the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church.
8. Those who faithfully recite the Rosary shall have, during their life and at their death, the light of God and the plenitude of His graces. At the moment of death, they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.
9. I shall deliver from purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary.
10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in heaven.
11. By the recitation of the Rosary you shall obtain all that you ask of me.
12. Those who propagate the holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities.
13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of their death.
14. All who recite the Rosary are my beloved children and the brothers and sisters of my only Son, Jesus Christ.
15. Devotion for my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.
