The Virgin Mary Reflection on her Fiat
Feast of the Annunciation: March 25th
“Let it be done to me according to Your word.” - Blessed Mother (Luke 1:38)
Reflection:
Mary’s life changed in an instant. She was a simple girl, humble and poor in material possessions. Yet she was rich in spirit. Her obedience and her submission to the will of the Father forever changed the world. The Mother of God boldly stated, “Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).
Because of her acceptance, Jesus came to be. He entered the world through the vessel of a woman. She allowed herself to be used for God’s greater honor and glory.
In these times of uncertainty of life, God is calling us to something more, as well. He comes to us each day. He asks us to love Him and serve Him in a different way every morning. Sometimes our schedules or priorities take us away from our tasks. Sometimes we don’t listen to God as we ought. Sometimes we don’t even stop to listen. Sometimes we don’t even pray.
This is the key. We must pause. We must pray. We must humble ourselves before the Lord as Mary did. We must ask the Lord what He desires for us. We must ask Him what He is calling us to do. So how can we give our fiat, our “yes,” to the Lord?
Let us be open to receiving God as Mary did. Let us become a vessel for God to work through. Let us be open. Pray. Contemplate.
Prayer:
Dear God, What a gift it is to have free will. May I be like Mary and always choose You. May I say yes to You in every circumstance. I know that I may falter, so help me in every step, in every
choice, and every circumstance. I desire to be your holy servant. Help me also to discover what my own fiat is for my life. I want to love You ever more each day. Amen.
