Feast Day April 4
“Do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God. Hope and have confidence in confession.”– St. Isidore of Seville
Reflection On Confession:
Because of the fall of Adam and Eve, we are inclined toward sin. On the journey toward Heaven, we are in a constant battle toward overcoming our vices and living lives of virtue. There are many bumps in the road, and we are not perfect whatsoever.
We have all been there… We’ve sinned. We’ve separated ourselves from God. We’ve felt ashamed. But more than our wrongdoing is the overwhelming love and mercy of God. He never tires of chasing after our hearts. He loves us with a deep and unconditional love. This kind of love is unfathomable to the human mind.
When we falter, we must take the words of St. Isidore to our hearts. “Do not doubt, do not hesitate, never despair of the mercy of God. Hope and have confidence in confession.” There is incredible power in confession. On our own accord, we are unworthy, but with God’s grace, we are made worthy.
There is nothing more beautiful than sitting next to a priest (in the person of Christ) who desires to heal you of all ills. Jesus healed the paralytic man in the pool of Bethesda; He forgave the woman caught in adultery; and He inspired conversion in the woman at the well. The same Jesus sits before you in confession. He makes all things new.
We cannot function properly if we continually hit the “Remind Me Later” button. Let’s go to confession, seek counsel, and move toward living a holier life inspired by Christ.
Prayer:
Dear God, I know that I have sinned and separated myself from You. I desire to be wiped clean of my offenses. I want to be reunited with You. Help me not to doubt, hesitate, or despair of Your mercy as St. Isidore states. I long to be with You, Lord. I love You! Amen.
