Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary focuses on her interior life of prayer, virtue, and love.  It draws us to contemplate how filled Mary's heart was with love of Christ. Mary told us during her appearances at Fatima that God wished to establish devotion to her Immaculate Heart throughout the world. 

Pope Paul VI explains in his Apostolic Exhortation:

May the Immaculate Heart of Mary shine before the eyes of all Christians as the model of perfect love toward God and toward our fellow beings; may it lead them toward the Holy Sacraments by virtue of which souls are cleansed from the stains of sin and are preserved from it. May it also stimulate them to make reparation for the innumerable offenses against the Divine Majesty. Lastly, may it shine like a banner of unity and a spur to perfect the bonds of brotherhood among all Christians in the bosom of the one Church of Jesus Christ, which "taught by the Holy Spirit, honors her with filial affection and piety as a most beloved mother."(52)

The Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary changes in exact date depending on the date of Pentecost but always immediately follows the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Ideas to celebrate:

• Look up the two places in Scripture which refer to Mary’s Heart.  Read and meditate on them.

  • Luke 2:19 & Luke 2:51

• Change lockscreen/wallpaper/background to an image of the Immaculate Heart
• Pray the Litany of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
• Read the Scripture verses above and discuss or meditate on what Mary pondered in her heart
• Go to Mass on the First Saturday of the month
• Pray the Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
• Go to Confession and Have God make your heart clean again (pure like Mary's)
• Sing/Listen to the Salve Regina while looking at a statue or image of the Blessed Mother
  • Another version
• Talk with a friend or family member about what makes Mary’s heart Immaculate. How can we imitate that?
• Wear blue to honor Mary or white to be reminded of her purity
• Make a heart shaped cake
• Gaze on the image of the Immaculate Heart and contemplate what it's telling us about Mary and her love of God.  Consider some of the symbols below in your prayer.
